One of the reasons I love Saman’s books so much is that they’re easy to get lost in for a few hours and just enjoy every single word you’re reading. No matter what, there is excitement and activity taking place. The story of Carter and Grace is one of intense feelings, not just all the activity, and there are a lot of dangers to their careers in the way. While I always enjoy all the steam in Saman’s books, because there’s no shortage of it, I adore the way she creates emotional and broken characters that build one another up. They’re not just left heartbroken and crestfallen after disparaging events. She writes about the humanity of people, sticking together and doing what’s right rather than just all the empty happy feelings that I see sometimes in other works,
Grace is going through a huge self-esteem dropkick after her fiancé essentially destroys her with his wanton cheating ways. She feels like she will never be able to see herself as attractive again, but Carter is there to pick up all the pieces and be the biggest support of her life. A support she didn’t even realize she needed until now. She’s always depended on herself and really hasn’t let anyone take care of her. But love is two-sided and she’s going to struggle to let him in.
These two were absolutely adorable, even if it was frustrating waiting for everything to fall into place, it’s what I expect Saman to do when I read one of her books and I appreciate the ending even more so because of it all!
