An ARC copy of this book was provided to me in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts are my own.

I always try to be prepared going into a book. I definitely do not like looking through reviews of others before I read something, because I’ve found that a lot of important things about a story can be easily ruined by reading reviews. But I do like to read the synopsis or other information provided by the author on their social media to get a sense and feel for any story.

I was wholly unprepared for the emotional roller coaster of this book.

This is a story about the most alpha kind of male character, that scares you and excites you all at the same time. Combined with a beautiful young woman, inside and out, that sees the best in everyone. To a fault. This causes her to learn some HARD lessons in life throughout the story. I don’t want to get too much into any of that because it will give away too many important elements. But I can tell you that you will enjoy this brother’s best friend, major alpha character of Alex and his amazingly sweet Ava.

Twisted Love can very easily be considered an #OwnVoices novel as well because the author is of Asian descent and the main character Ava and her family are based around these dynamics as well. Chinese culture is mentioned in relation to the malfunctioning of the family relationships which I thought was a really important element to explaining certain things that happen. Alex’s family is based on a Ukrainian family lineage and almost reeks of mafia style brooding as well.

“The biggest sacrifice someone could make was to live for something – to allow it to consume you and turn you into a version of yourself you didn’t recognize. Death was oblivion; life was reality, the harshest truth that had every existed.”

Twisted Love, Ana Huang

These cultural elements built a really nice framework for the characters backgrounds and how they interact with the world around them and the people they associate with. The steam level in this one is HOT, but you’ll have to endure some long-term torture as the characters take some time to get to the goods. But is A++ worth it; I guarantee it. The ending leaves you with a nice little cliff hanger for other characters into the next novel in the series and I’d say I’m going to be reading that one as well. If Huang has me hooked with this one, I can only imagine how amazing the next one will be.

If you want to read about a young girl who truly faces her darkest fears and overcomes some of the most traumatic experiences with her own family and finding love you’ll want to read this one. Alex will have you shaking from fear and crumbling from steamy exhaustion on top of all the suspense. It’s a roller coaster read that had me breathless for so many reasons!

  2. When Ava is interrogating her father, Michel Chen, he says you’re not my daughter. He talks about how he tested Josh and how that Josh was his real and only child. So I guess the question is who is Ava real father ?? Also sorry this is really long
