First Lines Friday | 5/24/24

First Lines Fridays is a weekly feature for book lovers hosted by Wandering Words. What if instead of judging a book by its cover, its author or its prestige, we judged it by its opening lines?

  • Pick a book off your shelf (it could be your current read or on your TBR) and open to the first page.
  • Copy the first few lines, but don’t give anything else about the book away just yet – you need to hook the reader first.
  • Finally… reveal the book!

The weekend is here and I’m so excited for it! It’s a long weekend too, which means lots of reading and I’ve got just the right book for a fun weekend. This romantic comedy is perfect for some good laughs and fun, plus the author is just the sweetest as can be. You’ll be seeing more about her next week as well.

I’ve been reading heavier, emotional books lately and so I’m really looking forward to this one. I just started it last night and read the first chapter before I passed our from being to sleepy after a long day at a work conference. Hopefully you’re all ready for the weekend and have your reading in order.

But, if you need something new to pick up, I’ll leave some extra recommendations below from today’s First Lines Friday choice!

Question of the Day

Would you rather roller skate or ice skate?

Now onto FIRST LINES FRIDAY!

First Lines Friday reveal…….

Flock and Roll – Vicki Hilton

Rowena Swan, Tuft Swallow’s reigning crochet queen, is living her best life—or so she thinks. She’s got a thriving Etsy store, her independence, and a firm resolve NOT to pine over her brother’s hockey-playing best friend, Brody Flockhart. But when he returns to their quirky small town, sidelined by injury and questioning his future, long forgotten sparks reignite.

In a move to spend more time with the woman he’s always loved, Brody convinces Rowena to join a roller derby tryout—with him as her coach. The snag? Rowena sets her own challenge, and he has to learn to crochet.

As they navigate the ups and downs of small-town life, roller rinks and crafting circles, will Brody realize he can’t find true happiness in fame and fortune? And will Rowena see that she’s worthy of love, just as she is?

Get ready for a swoon-worthy romp where love, laughter, and logic unravel. After all, what’s a few dropped stitches between friends?
