Secrets of the Deep by Marisa Noelle

Released: July 19, 2023

Started reading this one last night before bed and was immediately drawn into Cordy’s world. Her mother and twin brother were killed by some crazy large great white shark while their family was out on their boat. It’s now five years later and Cordy still won’t go into the water. But apparently, all the secrets are about to start coming out and I can’t wait to see where this one goes!

CORDELIA BLUE IS AFRAID OF WATER .

CORDELIA IS ALSO A MERMAID.

Determined to face her fear, Cordelia enters the ocean for the first time since her twin brother was killed and learns she is from the oldest bloodline of mermaids. Entrusted with a magical relic, it us up to her alone to break an ancient curse and free the mermaids from the water.

But the selachii – mysterious shark shapeshifters – also have their eyes on the relic. As tensions increase between the mermaids and selachii, Cordelia doesn’t know who to trust. Forced to choose between love and race, she doubts every decision and the intentions of those around her.

Trusting her head will lead to a path of betrayal, but she might just get her family back. If she chooses her heart, the mermaids may stay cursed to remain in the ocean forever.

Secrets of a Wallflower by Laura Beers

Released: June 4, 2024

Reading anything by Laura Beers makes me oh so happy. This is another one in her Lords & Ladies of Mayfair series that features all the spies working to protect the crown in England. Simone and Caleb were just wonderful alongside one another and I enjoyed every moment with them.

Read my FULL REVIEW for this one!

Two unlikely partners must risk their secrets- and hearts- to unravel a web of treachery and save England.

Miss Simone Delacourt, a seemingly unnoticed wallflower in the eyes of the ton, hides a secret life as a spy, enjoying the freedom her anonymity affords. When she’s reluctantly paired with Mr. Caleb Bolingbroke, a man she can barely tolerate, her carefully crafted life is thrown into turmoil.

Mr. Caleb Bolingbroke isn’t pleased that he is assigned with the obstinate Miss Delacourt, but he is pleased when he is able to convince her to give their partnership a chance. Pursuing elusive French spies is their shared mission, and the stakes are high. Despite Miss Delacourt’s initial mistrust, Caleb is determined to win her over.

As they delve into the pursuit of the French spies, Caleb and Simone discover the need to depend on each other. The case unravels a web of secrets and lies, challenging their perceptions. In this intricate game of treachery, they must risk everything, including their hearts, to save England from an impending threat.

The Stardust Grail by Yume Kitasei

Releasing: June 11, 2024

This is supposed to be great and I loved Kitasei’s debut novel The Deep Sky. Her writing is unique and reminds me of the great sci-fi writers of the past (Robert A. Heinlein) where they incorporate these alien qualities and individuals so seamlessly into a combination of the modern world and our future era. It’s an impressive feat and I enjoy reading her books. Can’t wait to get into this one!

Save one world. Doom her own.

From the acclaimed author of The Deep Sky comes a thrilling anti-colonial space heist to save an alien civilization.

Maya Hoshimoto was once the best art thief in the galaxy. For ten years, she returned stolen artifacts to alien civilizations—until a disastrous job forced her into hiding. Now she just wants to enjoy a quiet life as a graduate student of anthropology, but she’s haunted by persistent and disturbing visions of the future.

Then an old friend comes to her with a job she can’t refuse: find a powerful object that could save an alien species from extinction. Except no one has seen it in living memory, and they aren’t the only ones hunting for it.

Maya sets out on a breakneck quest through a universe teeming with strange life and ancient ruins. But the farther she goes, the more her visions cast a dark shadow over her team of friends new and old. Someone will betray her along the way. Worse yet, in choosing to save one species, she may condemn humanity and Earth itself.
