Introduction

I have been a Cassie Laelyn fan for quite a few years now. Back in 2020 I came across her Fallen Guardians series that was still in progress and I fell in love with the characters. Unforsaken was the catalyst of my love for Cassie’s books and that appreciate has just grown over the years. The books in this series feature “fallen angels” that are on earth for different reasons, but are essentially being punished for something and have to live out their immortality here. Her Small Town Packs series is a fun shifter romance as well that I’ve enjoyed watching unfold!

Cassie’s an amazing person and a wonderful author friend; I’m so excited to share more about Cassie with you all and maybe you’ll find something that grabs your attention!

About Her Books:

The Fallen Guardians

Hidden deep in the Snowy Mountains, lives a brotherhood of immortal Guardians, banished from the Heavens.

After centuries of exile, Head Guardian Raven can taste Hell. One wrong move could destroy his soul. When Fate assigns him a female mortal to protect, his forbidden desire becomes a distraction he can’t afford. Giving in to temptation risks plummeting into the fiery pits of Hell, dragging her along with him.

Tayla Eason is on the run, escaping a horrific attack on her life. When she lands in the arms of the sexy, alluring man who saved her, the shadows of her past swiftly close in. But when Fate throws a twist, Tayla’s forced to choose between saving Raven’s soul or fleeing before the creatures strike again.

In an ultimate test of love, the two must battle against the almighty Fate. But will it be enough to save them both?

Small Town Packs

Dive into the world of small towns and swoony shifters with this action-packed, heart-melting prequel to the Small Town Packs series!

Destiny. Adventure. A second chance worth fighting for.

When Ivy Morgan embarked on an epic road trip, the last thing she expected was to stumble into her supposed fated mate. Liam Cole. The guy with a wolfish smirk who takes protection to a whole new level. Also, the guy who watched her leave four months ago. But when a vicious storm catches them unaware, their reunion takes a dangerous turn.

Stranded together, Ivy must now choose between the freedom she craves and trusting the only man who’s ever held her heart.

But what if that trust costs her everything?

Interview with Cassie Laelyn

Q: Let’s get started with an introduction. Can you tell me a little about how you first got into writing and what it felt like publishing your very first book?

A:  I think I’ve always created stories. Whether it be as a kid dreaming up other worlds and characters (mostly spooky stories!) or as a teen turning those worlds into words on paper (mostly paranormal suspense!), the concept of writing has always been present in my life. It wasn’t until I stepped away from my career that I gave myself permission to see where that passion took me. That was where Unforsaken began! Raven’s character had been “talking” to me for years, showing me flashes of his story, and it wasn’t until I stopped and actually listened, that the Fallen Guardian world unfolded. Two years later, I had multiple publishing offers on the table, and a year after that, I finally held him in my hands. To say it was a dream come true is an understatement. It was a dream thirty years in the making.

Q: What are some of your favorite hobbies (other than writing)?

A: I tend to fall in and out of hobbies, and don’t really have one that has stuck forever, besides reading. That’s a hobby, right? Reading and collecting books for my Beauty and the Beast worthy home library… wait, there’s two hobbies! I also love a bit of gardening, house renovating, grown-up paint by numbers, and lately, I’m enjoying spraying book edges!

Q: What’s your favorite unusual food combination?

A: I really don’t think I have any strange food combinations, though my husband thinks it’s weird that I like to put chips (fries) on my burger. Is that strange enough?

Q: What book (other than your own) do you recommend to everyone that they have to read?

A: This is a tough question! I’m such a mood reader that I flip from genre to genre depending on what my brain is craving! Last month I was on a romantic suspense binge reading Catherine Cowles, the month before was all small-town romance (hello, Elsie Silver!), and now, I’m diving back into my romantasy era! My book recommendation list is probably a mile long, but there’s three authors that will always be at the top – Jennifer L Armentrout because of Roth and Ren, JR Ward for her scorching-hot vampires, and Kresely Cole for her epic world building and sassy characters. Right this second though, I’m making everyone read Quicksilver by Callie Hart… just remember that I licked Kingfisher first!

Q: Can you tell me a little bit about your writing process? Note taking; favorite place to write uninterrupted; etc?

A: This also varies depending on my mood! Usually I go through the “dreaming” or planning stage where I allow my mind to wander and listen to the characters in my head, building their profile. I’m not a full-on plotter, so I tend to take notes and jot down main plot points in pretty journals during this stage. Once the actual writing commences, I write a rough first draft, with my awesome critique partner providing comments along the way, and then I go back and edit, edit, edit until I’m happy with the final product. Then it heads off to my editor and down the publishing pipeline depending on whether it’s self published or traditionally published. My favorite place to write is outside on my deck when the weather isn’t too hot and the mosquitoes are biting someone else!

Q: Tell us a little about what inspired your latest release.

A:  My last release was Entrust (prequel to the Small Town Packs series). Liam and Ivy’s story was one of the most requested couples from my books, and although I didn’t have capacity to give them a full-length book, I desperately wanted the world to read their happily ever after. And what better way to show Liam’s undying devotion to Ivy than to plonk him in Ivy’s path and have a tropical storm force them to spend the night together on a deserted island! My hometown may have inspired the island, but that rain scene in Sweet Home Alabama (you know the one where Jake says “so I can kiss you whenever I want”?), well, that inspired the scene where Liam and Ivy are stranded in the beach hut overnight 😉

Q: Which one of your books was your most favorite to write?

A: I’ve enjoyed writing each of the books for different reasons. I feel like even though each character is their own “person”, they all have a little bit of me inside them and I love seeing them work through the obstacles before them and come out a better fictional character. But the books that have been the easiest to write, where the story just flew off the page in a mad rush, are Unseen (EJ’s story from the Fallen Guardians) and Salvation (Noah’s story from Small Town Packs).

Q: If you were to ask your friends or family, what would they say your greatest “Superpower” is?

A: Hmm. My friends would probably say my greatest superpower is the ability to create stories and turn them into books. But my family, they’d probably say it’s the chicken pie I cook that takes hours to make only for my boys to demolish it in 3.7 seconds!

Q: If you could be any fictional character (cartoon, movie, show, book, etc), who would you be?

A: Nope, this question is way too hard! I can’t possibly pick one fictional character, I’d end up being a mash-up of so many it would just be weird! I’d want to be a FMC that is strong, not whiny, doesn’t shy away from danger but also has the common sense to call in sidekicks when needed, is loyal, dependable, has a strong group of friends, makes a wicked cocktail, and lands herself a soulmate (or fated mate, depending on the world I’m in!) with dark hair, unearthly blue eyes, tattoos, and a slightly morally gray compass. Ha ha!

Q: What advice would you give to a new writer just starting out?

A: Believe in yourself. Those characters floating around in your head deserve to have their story told and only YOU can tell it.

Q: You have 50 words or less to convince an audience why they should read your books. Go!

A: Okay… you know that fluttering feeling you get in your belly when you’re rooting for a character, where your breath bottles up in your chest so much that their redemption leaves you all gooey? Well, that’s what you get with my books! Plus, snort-worthy banter and smoking-hot paranormal dudes 😉 49 words… Nailed it!

Thank you so much for having me on Adventures in Literature!
