I originally added this one as part of my Kindle Unlimited Holiday selections because the synopsis and cover caught my attention. While I read an array of romance genre books from erotica to Christian based books, I enjoy all kinds of romance novels because they all have their own special ingredients to a story.

A Christmas by the Sea happens to be a clean Christian faith based romance novel about a single mother Wendy and her son Jackson. Wendy’s husband passed away from sickness and Wendy is notified that her grandparents have also passed away and left her their seaside cottage.

The cottage holds fond summer memories for Wendy and she takes her son their for the holidays to fix it up and sell so she can balance her struggling finances. As they arrive, memories and family ties start to embed them in the community in a way Wendy hadn’t expected.

When it comes to sell the cottage, Wendy has a tough decision to make. Does she stay where she has developed a romantic attachment and where her son has finally found some happiness after his father’s passing or do they sell and go back to boring Ohio?

I enjoyed the faith based portions of this book that emphasize trusting in the paths laid before you. Wendy and Jackson regularly pray for answers and guidance on their journey. The characters are well developed and easily likeable with a few splattered in that you love to dislike.

This was the first novel I’ve read from Carlson, but she has many under her belt and I would love to read some more from her.
