Hunting monsters is not an easy business, but for Billie Shane it’s the only career she’s ever wanted. At nineteen, her aunt and uncle give her something that means more to her than money—her first solo case. But there’s a catch, and his name is Galileo Beck, a psychic training with the state to help law enforcement with supernatural cases.

Billie has disliked the popular young man since childhood, but unfortunately for her the case involves his three best friends. The three managed to summon a powerful demon, and though locked in the cemetery, the demon is feeding off of them in order to gain the power to free itself.

With a large festival coming to Eden Hollow, Billie and Galileo must work together if they want to stop not only the death of his friends, but also to save their hometown from becoming a feeding ground for a demon.

Adventures in Literature Review

Rating: 4 out of 5.

The world we read within this book is filled with magic and adventure. There are demons, witches and ghosts to name a few and it is an open society – meaning that everyone is aware of and/or practices magic of some kind. There are witches, telepaths, psychics and hunters that are the main characters.

It’s been a while since I’ve read a book like this. It is a novella and a very quick read at that. We have the main character Billie who is a Hunter – she comes from a long family line of hunters and is just starting to be allowed to do cases out on her own. As she is trying to fill the role expected of her, she’s handed her very first solo case without her trainer but is partnered with a man who she went to high school with and is not too fond of.

There are a lot of rough waters between Billie and her partner Gallie as they investigate a mysterious situation that involves boys they also went to school with that have released a demon that needs to be removed.

It was a fun adventure for such a quick read and I’d recommend it to my friends that enjoy a fast-paced fantasy novel. Billie was my favorite character as she didn’t let her past transgressions with these boys cloud her judgement in seeing through her case truthfully and to the best of her ability.
