Rating: 5 out of 5.

I remember coming across these characters in Twisted Love (Book 1) and knowing that the story of a Princess and her Bodyguard was going to be a good one. But I’ll admit, as seems to be the case with Huang, she utterly surprised me. Buckle our seatbelt and get ready for the most beautifully torturous slow burn of your life. These two spend years together – YEARS – as Princess and Bodyguard fighting against their attraction to one another. You get all the feels of their relationship developing and deepening over the course of time. Then you get to deal with all the pain as the reality of their situation comes crashing down on them.

Rhys is a dark bad boy who has a military past and is much older than Bridget. When they first meet they cannot stand one another which makes sense because they are both so different. But the time spent together, the appreciation for one another and the adoration that builds, peels away his tough exterior and reveals a sensitive, protective man that has never let anyone into his inner world.

Bridget is an incredibly intelligent young woman living life as a Princess for a country that has a succession plan that shouldn’t require her to have to step into any major roles. That is, until their whole family dynamic changes and she’s next in line to take the Crown. We learn that piece at the end of Book 1 so it’s not a spoiler or a surprise. But watching Bridget struggle with finding peace in her life then having everything she expected to know turned upside down was painful. Thankfully she had Rhys there by her side to comfort her and help provide some stability.

Once you get past the slow burn element of this one, the relationship between these two is burning off the pages with all kinds of fun role playing and interaction that you would NEVER expect from the pretty and prim Bridget. But when you think about her controlled life, all of it starts to make sense. The relinquishing of control and allowing herself to be taken care of opens up a whole new side of her.

This series is amazing with all of its characters and the stories have been unique from one another in pretty drastic ways. Highly recommended for adult romance readers!

About the Book

She can never be his…but he’s taking her anyway.

Stoic, broody, and arrogant, elite bodyguard Rhys Larsen has two rules: 1) Protect his clients at all costs 2) Do not become emotionally involved. Ever.

He has never once been tempted to break those rules…until her.

Bridget von Ascheberg. A princess with a stubborn streak that matches his own and a hidden fire that reduces his rules to ash. She’s nothing he expected and everything he never knew he needed.

Day by day, inch by inch, she breaks down his defenses until he’s faced with a truth he can no longer deny: he swore an oath to protect her, but all he wants is to ruin her. Take her.

Because she’s his.

His princess.

His forbidden fruit.

His every depraved fantasy.

Regal, strong-willed, and bound by the chains of duty, Princess Bridget dreams of the freedom to live and love as she chooses.

But when her brother abdicates, she’s suddenly faced with the prospect of a loveless, politically expedient marriage and a throne she never wanted.

And as she navigates the intricacies—and treacheries—of her new role, she must also hide her desire for a man she can’t have.

Her bodyguard.

Her protector.

Her ultimate ruin.
