MY REVIEW:

As a hopeless romantic, this book immediately spoke to me! Read in less than 24 hours in its entirety, I have to admit that I consumed this entire book in just a few sittings. It’s not long at only 192 pages, but the story is deep with characterization and romance.

Georgina is a bit of a loner just kind of getting through her days and has just finished up at University when news of her mother’s death brings with it surprises and intrigue.

“I’d made a few friends in my class, but we didn’t hang out beyond that and I didn’t mind the quiet – preferring to be lost in the pages of a book rather than in conversation.”

Her mother apparently had an entire estate left behind for Georgina and she travels to her family’s home that she never even knew existed to try and find answers about her life and try to learn more about her mother’s death.

She arrives at the home left to her in her mother’s will and is accompanied by the housekeeper and groundskeeper that are still there. This trio works together to unravel the mysteries as Georgina falls for the groundskeeper and learns more than she bargained for.

“I’d always felt the dark had eyes, pressing down upon you, prickling the hairs on your neck, making your pulse race inexplicably. But there was a certain comfort to it too, to seeing but being unseen, to know but be unknown.”

One Last Touch, Jade Church

The love story in this one really had me choked up several times as Georgina and Sage slowly develop across the pages. Their love story is tragic and filled with distance, want and desire that both of them crave but some things are more difficult than they appear at first.

“Because I do care, even though I shouldn’t. It hurts far more to see you and be unable to touch you than to die a true death with my hand in yours.”

One Last Touch, Jade Church

This line had me balling when I read it because these two are both incredibly romantic and want more time together, but their circumstances just don’t allow them to be together in the ways they want to. But the end left me more sated than I had allowed myself to hope for.

A reminder that love is essential and that we all fight for what we love, no matter how difficult the battle might be.

I had never seen a ghost before I came to Alswell Manor…

Staff who disappear after sunset. Footsteps that echo in the halls. Alswell Manor is at once a place of life and death, love and tragedy. When the manor passes to Georgina after her mother’s death, she is unprepared for how much the old house would feel like home.

Haunted by the mysteries in her past, Georgina is determined to unravel the truth of what happened to her mother, and their twisted connection to the house drawing her in.

With malevolent forces stalking her every move, and a man she could never have growing closer to capturing her heart, Georgina must uncover the truth, before it too claims her.
