MY REVIEW:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

Going into this book I knew I was going to be reading a story about a young woman finding out that she was mermaid. What I didn’t know, was that it was going to be such a positively focused story. Now what do I mean by that? I mean that the characters in this story are faced with serious challenges of life changing revelations. But they have an amazingly supportive system that surrounds them from their friends to family members. From what I understand, this author (new to me) focuses on positive mental health in her books, and I would say that really stood out to me in this story.

Cordelia is about to turn 18 years old and she lost her mother and twin brother five years ago to a tragic shark attack. Her father and her have been working together to support each other in their new lives without them, and Cordy has always felt loved and supported by her father and her two best friends. But as her birthday approaches and she finally starts to face her fear of the water, another hiccup comes into her life in the form of a mermaid tale.

Facing the challenges of this news and balancing a new boyfriend, the swim team master himself Wade, she has a lot going on. But the shark attacks in the surrounding California waters continue to increase and Cordelia is concerned that something even more sinister is happening around them.

A fantasy world unfolds around the characters that scoops them right into a new world where mermaids exist, as well as many other creatures they never even heard of! This trio of friends are faced with the challenges of finding answers and saving the mermaids before it’s too late for all of them. PLUS it’s only book one in a series that’s already up to five books so you can binge them all NOW – see the links below!

And he may have betrayed her…

Terrified of water since her twin brother’s tragic death, Cordelia confronts her fear and discovers she’s not just human – she’s a mermaid, born of the oldest bloodline. Entrusted with a powerful relic, she holds the key to breaking an ancient curse that binds her kin beneath the waves.

But danger lurks in the form of the selachii, elusive shark shapeshifters hell-bent on claiming the relic for themselves. Caught between duty and desire, Cordelia finds herself entangled in a web of forbidden love when an old flame reappears with secrets of his own.

As tensions rise and loyalties are tested, Cordelia must navigate treacherous waters, unsure who to trust. Every choice could lead to salvation or eternal captivity for her fellow merfolk.
