What a wonderful story that transported me into a world that felt very much like a fairytale! Theresia is a strong-willed, brave, and intelligent young woman that’s had her entire life ripped out from beneath her. But she doesn’t give up and her inner strength to continue fighting for herself was powerful! I adored her so very much and found her inspirational and a great reminder of how a woman’s will to defend herself is a force to be reckoned with.
Rolland learned this all too well the moment they met and he was immediately smitten with her. Their growing romance was a tale of wonder to watch unfold. I would liken their growing attractions to watching a small flower start to develop; seeing the petals slowly unfold and blossom into a perfectly shaped beauty. It was marvelous to behold! Their quick and witty banter was funny, but they were able to be serious as well and expose their inner thoughts comfortably with one another.
It was also a fun adventure as the majority of the story is based on a house party being held with all of the individuals that the hosts believe are potential suspects. The four men that are best friends and also work as spies for the kingdom of Britain, know that there is a deadly suspect in their midst and they must stop the criminal before Rolland’s father is killed. The same suspect in their case is also the same suspect that Theresia is looking for that stole something very precious to her. But she’s trying to hide her background for fear that she will lose everything.
It’s an intense story filled with danger, romance and friendships. I adored this story and now I need to back track and read the two that came before it because I really want to spend more time with all of the characters!
My Favorite Lines
“I always leave when I am wanted, for how else shall I be missed? Besides, I cannot make our dear captain uncomfortable. Don’t worry, I will be back.”
“I have a feeling Lady Glass is going to remember a life she’s never lived before.”
“Wars and toiling for our bread might humble and give us character, but it’s love that makes men out of us.”
“I’m learning that the only way to chase away darkness is the same way the sun clears a storm. One must immerse themselves with light thoughts and memories of better days.”

Theresia Dvorak has nothing left of her parents—nothing save her dowry, a priceless crystal vase stolen and sold by her own stepmother. Theresia will do anything to secure what is rightfully hers—even assume a false identity and steal her future back. When she gains entrance to a house party and has a memorable run-in with the handsome navel captain Rolland Reese, her mission is compromised. She swore never to trust an Englishman again, but when he makes a daring proposal she cannot refuse, she must work side by side with him if either of them is to achieve their aim.
Rolland is stunned when his homecoming from the war takes a decidedly deadly turn. The quickest solution is to throw a house party and invite all the suspects. With the stakes incredibly high, Rolland must root out the killer before they turn their sights to the next potential victim: his own father. The mysterious Theresia is undoubtedly the most suspicious of his guests, but against all odds, he finds himself risking everything to protect her. As Rolland unravels a tangle of clues, he faces the greatest threats of all: a heart of fire and a future as fragile as glass.
