Introduction
Kimberly Stanton was born and raised just outside of Los Angeles, in bright and sunny California. If she isn’t curled up with a cup of coffee and a book, Kimberly can be found out exploring the Hawaiian coasts with her husband and black labs, Koda and Cerberus. As a voracious reader, Kimberly wanted to create a character in Cassandra that was equal parts sass and badass with a heart of gold. Sorcerer Awakened is Kimberly’s first book.

Interview with Kimberly Stanton
Q: Can you tell me a little about how you first got into writing and what it felt like publishing your very first book?
A: There are two words that immediately come to mind about how I was feeling when I hit publish that first time – amazing and terrifying. (They’re also the same words that come to mind each time I hit publish) I’ve always been a writer and would pen short stories for myself since I was young, but towards the end of 2021 I found myself with lots of downtime and thought, ‘Why the hell not?’
Q: What are some of your favorite hobbies (other than writing)?
A: I love being outside with my husband and our dogs. For the next couple years we are living in Hawaii which means lots of gorgeous hiking, snorkeling and paddleboarding.

Q: What book (other than your own) do you recommend to everyone that they have to read?
A: That’s such a tough question! I’d have to pick two just because they’re so vastly different (fantasy and thriller/suspense). The first would be Dark and Shallow Lies by Ginny Myers Sain. The other would be Survive the Night by Riley Sager. Both of these books are so wonderfully written that I just couldn’t put them down.
Q: What is your favorite strange food combination?
A: Now here me out…Goldfish crackers in applesauce…it’s weird I know, but I’ve loved it since I was young.
Q: If you were to ask your friends or family, what would they say your greatest “Superpower” is?
A: My ability to brighten their moods, When my friends are down or upset I always find a way to cheer them up. Typically it’s by distracting them with some crazy story or convincing them to go out and do something fun/crazy! (Ax throwing anyone?)
Q: If you could be any fictional character (cartoon, movie, show, book, etc), who would you be?
A: I’d love to be Buffy, from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. That was one of my favorite shows growing up, and definitely an inspiration for my main character. I loved that she was flawed, strong, selfish, caring, sarcastic, independent and I attempted to create a character that shared some of the same.
Q: Can you tell me a little bit about your writing process? Note taking; favorite place to write uninterrupted; etc?
A: I’m definitely a pantster when it comes to writing, I’m frequently just as surprised by some of the plot twists as my readers are. My favorite place to write is my eclectically decorated office, with my dedicated Shadow Lake playlist on, a candle burning, and either coffee or wine (depending on the time of day 🤣).
Q: Tell us a little about what inspired your latest release.
A: My latest release (which will be out next month) is the final book of my Shadow Lake trilogy. Throughout the trilogy I wanted to create stories that were realistic, both flawed and strong. Main characters who doubted themselves and their abilities, but persevered. Characters who would stand up to protect the ones they loved and fight to the death, but also aren’t afraid to cuss like sailors. 🤣🤣
Q: Which one of your books was your most favorite to write?
A: Sorceress Awakened will always be my baby since it was my first, but I had so much fun writing Prophecy Fulfilled. I got to tie up all of the loose ties and see my vision come to a happy conclusion.
Q: What advice would you give to a new writer just starting out?
A: Follow your instincts and trust in yourself. There is so much information out there and what works for one person won’t necessarily work for another. Focus on creating your perfect story, and don’t let your doubts win. Your story is worth being told.
Q: You have 50 words or less to convince an audience why they should read your books. Go!
A: If you love found family, Chosen One trope, Greek Mythology, sassy animal familiars, sarcastic 27 year old FMC who uses words such as twatwaffle, then the Shadow Lake Trilogy is for you!
Teaser: “I don’t know. Every time you open your mouth, I find murder a little less reprehensible.”
