Introduction

Cassandra Featherstone has channeled her lifelong passion for writing into a flourishing career, a journey that started when she first grasped a pencil as a neurospicy gifted child with ADHD. Her debut novel, born during the solitude of COVID lockdown in March 2020, draws on a tapestry of personal encounters and insights that resonate deeply with her readers.

Her works navigate the complexities of bullying, PTSD, body dysmorphia, mental health struggles, personal reinvention, and the empowerment of claiming one’s own space. Importantly, Cassandra offers a thoughtful and respectful portrayal of LGBTQIA+ relationships, subtly reflecting her own connection with the community through her narratives.

Her literary repertoire spans sci-fi fantasy, urban fantasy, paranormal, and comedic genres in academy whychoose settings, with a strong commitment to portraying consensual, safe, and accurately depicted BDSM and kink lifestyles. Her books are an invitation to explore transformative stories that are both inclusive and engaging.

An international bestseller, Cassandra has topped Amazon charts in categories such as LGBT Anthologies, LGBTQ+ Mystery, and Bisexual Romance, among others. She resides in the Midwest with her tech-savvy husband, their creatively inclined college student, a literary-minded dog, and four scheming cats.

Cassandra’s Books

Interview with Cassandra Featherstone

Q: Can you tell me a little about how you first got into writing and what it felt like publishing your very first book?

A:  I wrote my first short story as a young kid; my mom was an English teacher and she had me writing well before kindergarten. I didn’t think writing was possible because trad pub can be so difficult, but when my indie bookstore eliminated my department during COVID, I decided to give self-publishing a try. It felt like my dreams came true–despite that first venture being less than perfect.

Q: What are some of your favorite hobbies (other than writing)?

A: Obviously, I love to read. I’m a voracious reader and I read within romance, but also mystery, urban fantasy, and fantasy. I love to travel (though I don’t get to often). I collect Funkos and Barbies, plus I play four instruments.

Q: What book (other than your own) do you recommend to everyone that they have to read?

A:  Oh, no! I’m a why choose author and you asked me to pick–we don’t pick! Okay, let’s go with a safe one–read Agatha Christie. All of them. Her gift for details and weaving plots is unmatched, and she researched things so thoroughly she became an expert in several fields of study.

Q: What is your favorite strange food combination?

A:   Darlin’, I’m from the South. We do lots of odd things. But since I’m also not too far from Cincy, OH, we’ll go with three-ways: spaghetti, Cincy chili, and cheese on top. People find that mega weird in other areas.

Q: If you were to ask your friends or family, what would they say your greatest “Superpower” is?

A:  Reading people. I considered profiling when I was much younger.

Q: If you could be any fictional character (cartoon, movie, show, book, etc), who would you be?

A: Yikes… another choice. Argggh. I’d have to narrow this down so hard to sub-genre, so we’ll say She-Ra was my hero as a kid.

Q: Can you tell me a little bit about your writing process? Note taking; favorite place to write uninterrupted; etc?

A: My besties say I have a nest like an omega. LOL. I can write anywhere, but I normally write on my bed at home. I have a seat cushion, a mountain of Squishables’ as pillows, a desk tray, and a little organizer thingy that holds my supplies.

Q: Tell us a little about what inspired your latest release.

A: The next book coming out is Veiled Flame and I honestly love writing academy. Last year, I started writing it for Kindle Vella because I also realized I hadn’t written demons much and I adore the girl pretending to be a boy “She’s The Man” deal. It’s done extremely well on Vella, and I’m so very excited for it to be released on KU. Kat, hero/ine, also has severe anxiety and PTSD from a past trauma, and that was really great to tell the tale of due to personal experiences.

Q: What moment in one of your books is the most memorable or meaningful for you?

A: I’m really proud of the way Dolly intuits, handles, and then teaches the other guys about Fitz’s ADHD in the Apex series (particularly book 3). A lot of readers have told me how much it speaks to them and how they felt seen–that’s just the best feeling for a writer.

Q: What advice would you give to a new writer just starting out?

A: Don’t let FOMO push you to do things you aren’t ready for. Get a contract for everything no matter what. Don’t read your reviews if it’s not something you can handle–that’s okay to admit, too. Just keep writing and know this is a slow climb most of the time, not a lightning strike. You can do it; be patient.

Q: You have 50 words or less to convince an audience why they should read your books. Go!

A:  I write humorous, sexy, heartfelt ‘why choose’ romances that are filled with mystery, fun, steam, sassy FMCs, and hot guys that will make you swoon. Found family is a huge focus and my characters form intimate families that include everyone in the group in love.

Follow Cassandra

Cassandra Featherstone has been writing since she could hold a pencil.

She wrote her first story—about a girl picking strawberries—when she was three and has been creating worlds in her head ever since. After winning multiple awards for essays, poems, short stories and a very cheesy academy romance novel in high school, she was selected to attend the prestigious Governors School for the Arts in high school.

Her love of the arts extends to instrumental (she plays three instruments and marched flute/piccolo for six years), dance (ten years of tap/jazz/ballet/tumbling), and vocal/acting (musical theater focus). She auditioned for many colleges but selected NYU for musical theater and lived in NYC for several years while she was in studio.

After meeting her husband, she moved back to the Midwest and eventually had her one and only mini-me, affectionately known as the goblin.

She has worked in many industries from banking to retail management and most recently, a decade in multiple positions at a indie bookstore until COVID-19 permanently closed her educational services department.

Cassandra is passionate about literacy, but when she picked up her laptop to write her first published novel in March 2020, she decided to focus on subjects that not only spoke to her soul, but affected many of the women she’d met throughout her twisty life path.

Bullying, PTSD, body dysmorphia, mental illness, reinvention, and claiming your space are always themes in her books, as well as a respectful, non-fetishized representation of LGBTQIA+ relationships. Her expansion of the reverse harem genre to include various types of polycules and diverse characters with three dimensional personalities, hopes, and dreams was less common when she first published, but to her delight, becoming a standard reader request in the current atmosphere.

Because of her personal experiences in middle and high school, Cassandra is staunch defender of those who are targeted by those with actual or perceived power that attack those who don’t.

She’s also known as the Muppet for her outrageous, extroverted personality and her wacky brand of theater kid social media posts and videos.

Cassandra currently lives in the Midwest with her computer geek husband, artsy college goblin, and five cats that must have been spawned by Loki himself. Her works include sci-fi fantasy/urban fantasy, paranormal, humorous, and academy RH with characters over 18 and never include non-consensual elements.
