MY REVIEW:

Genre | Tropes: Historical Fiction, Clean Romance, Mail Order Bride

Rating: 5 out of 5 ⭐

I loved everything about this book! When I first came across the author hyping it’s upcoming release and I saw her mention “mail-order bride gone wrong”, I knew I wanted to check it out. But it turned out even better than I thought it would. The main character, Laurie, has recently lost her father and is now on her own. As her loveable cousin takes over the family home, Laurie sets off to live with family friends and set her own course.

But boredom and humor bring her attention to the advertisements from men in the western frontier asking for brides to come out West. One in particular catches her attention and that’s how she finds herself in the wilds of Wyoming. But the man she answered the advertisement for turns out to be a dangerous man whom Laurie must flee. She’d rather face a deadly snowstorm in hopes of getting to the train station and leaving Wyoming behind her.

But this is where the handsome gentle mannered John Newcomb comes into the picture as he finds her trudging through the snow on his way back to his own ranch and saves her life by bringing her home.

With Laurie now being stuck at the Newcomb Ranch until the snow thaws next Spring, she sets to making herself at home even if she fears the dangerous man from town finding her eventually. Her and John are adorable together, always nervous around one another but both of them so easily settling into the home life that they both envision for themselves.

It’s a nice small cast of characters that you really get to know everyone pretty deeply and immersed in the setting of a frontier Wyoming ranch during the winter. Life wasn’t easy during this time, but John and Laurie create a vision of that lifestyle that makes it easy to love!

The man on the other end of the mail-order bride ad is not at all what Laurie was expecting, and he won’t take no for an answer. Her only hope is to flee into the jaws of an oncoming storm and pray she makes it to the train station before freezing to death. An unexpected rescue leads to being snowed in with a rancher who is exactly what she’s been looking for… just when she really needs to get far away from Haven River Falls and the man who lied to lure her there.

Haven River Rescue is a sweet and clean romance set in 1880s Wyoming territory, perfect for fans of Mary Connealy, Charlotte Dearing, and Cat Cahill.

I always have to have a book to read, and I love going back and rereading old favorites (over and over). I’ve been writing novels and short stories since middle school, when I used to carry yellow legal pads to school to write during free periods (often in purple gel pen). I used to work at a library, and I still love connecting readers with amazing books.
