MY REVIEW:

Genre | Tropes: Romance, Fairytale Retelling, Historical Romance

Rating: 5 out of 5 ⭐

This was a really fun retelling of “Little Red Riding Hood”!

Rosalyn and Jasper are childhood friends that have grown very close over the years, but Jasper is considered a little unruly and his father sends him into the Navy. Many years have passed and he has now returned to their small town. He and Rosalyn rekindle where they left off, except that Jasper believes he isn’t good enough for Rosalyn.

This is the main focus of the book – Jasper returned and struggling with his feelings for Rosalyn and the belief that he isn’t adequate for her. Whilst Rosalyn is only just realizing her feelings. There are flashback scenes throughout the book to their childhood that reminisce how they grew so closely and why they really are perfect for one another.

Meanwhile in the present time frame, Rosalyn’s parents are trying to arrange a courtship between her and the other neighbor, Mr. Forster – he’s not such a nice guy and represents the “wolf” in this story. He is terrorizing Rosalyn’s grandmother and has been a difficult individual to deal with through their lives. In the flashbacks, they point out things that they witnessed about him back then, but were too young to really understand what it all meant. As his true nature is revealed, that provides a perfect opportunity for Rosalyn and Jasper to capture their own feelings and find their happily ever after!

A very quick read, but made even more fun if you group all of these lovely retellings together! If you adore fairytales that are set in a historical romantic setting without magic, then you’ll really enjoy this book.
