Haven River Family focuses on the story of Beth, the big sister and widowed mother of a toddler. We met her in both books in this series so far and now it was her time to shine. She is still recovering after her husband’s death a couple years prior and now her late husband’s brother is adamant that she marry him. So she does the only thing she can do, she buys a last minute ticket to head out to the frontier areas where her sister has just settled with her new husband.
When she reaches town, she starts to develop a quick friendship with the local shop owner Wes. He wants badly to protect her and when the single men in town won’t stop harassing Beth to marry them, he announces that she is his fiancé. It’s a ploy to get the men to leave her alone and it works. But now they have to navigate a fake relationship, which gets complicated as feelings start to develop from both of them.
I enjoyed both of these characters. Beth is a strong woman who wants to find her own way. She’s been struggling to take care of herself all on her own since her husband passed away, and she’s determined to not let anyone help her. But Wes is so sweet and supportive of her being her own person that her walls fall quickly and he’s the perfect fit to step into her world. Not to mention that her young son takes so well to Wes.
Wes’s character was just as amazing as Beth. He is a little older, in his thirties, and has accepted the fact that he’ll probably spend his life alone running the small family store. But Beth changes everything for him and he’s willing to put his whole life on the line to protect her.
The entire story is a relaxing read, mostly without a lot of strain, other than their own personal development hurdles. I liked the pace which went quickly, but wasn’t rushed either.

Beth Ellis might be a widow with a young child, but she has her life under control. Mostly. Until an unwanted proposal and ultimatum shows her just how precarious her current situation is. She takes her son and flees westward to join her sister, only to discover that, as a single woman in a town full of unattached men, she’s exposed to more unwelcome proposals than ever. When one cowboy won’t take no for an answer, Beth desperately accepts Wes Harrison’s offer of a fake engagement for her own protection.
What Wes feels for Beth is anything but fake. But can she come to terms with her past and embrace the future that he longs for?
Haven River Family, the finale in the Haven River Brides trilogy, is a clean and wholesome romance set in 1880s Wyoming. It contains no spice or foul language and a guaranteed HEA, while dealing with a couple of potentially triggering themes including loss/grief and childbirth.

I’m a Christ-follower, mom, writer, knitting designer, and blogger. (You can see my knitting on my blog, Squigglidinks.)
I always have to have a book to read, and I love going back and rereading old favorites (over and over). I’ve been writing novels and short stories since middle school, when I used to carry yellow legal pads to school to write during free periods (often in purple gel pen). I used to work at a library, and I still love connecting readers with amazing books.
My favorite things include books, yarn, and dark chocolate. I live with my husband, two boys, and our fluffy-faced goldendoodle.
