MY REVIEW:

Rating: 5 out of 5.

This is the fifth book in this amazing series and it tells the story of time crosser Kate who is living in 1938 and visiting London right before World War II really gets going, and conversely living in 1888 London where Jack the Ripper is getting started. Her two paths intertwine as she is working on an exhibit in 1938 for Jack the Ripper and also living through the real time events in her other life.

But as she’s researching the event, she realizes her sister in 1888 might be in danger and even one of Jack’s victims. She’s willing to sacrifice her timeline in 1888 if she can save her sister, but this creates a lot of issues with her love interest and childhood friend, Austen.

Kate’s character is incredibly headstrong, essentially throwing herself in danger’s way throughout this entire book. She continuously made me nervous and scared for her as everything unfolds. But I love her commitment and endearment to those close to her. She is always willing to sacrifice for her loves ones. The thing she struggles with the most, is letting others help her and put themselves in danger. But as the story goes on, she starts to learn how to let those closest to her inside her bubble and be there with her.

Kate and Austen were a heart wrenching love story. Austen has known for a long time that he loves Kate, but he refuses to explore those feelings because she made clear a long time that she wouldn’t stay in this timeline. Watching his pain and distress at hiding his love for her was heartbreaking. He’s a gentleman through and through, but he can’t always give into the whims of Kate because he’s trying not to put his heart out there to be trampled.

Both timelines that Kate lives in is filled with treacherous activity and I found it interesting to observe the characters around her in 1938 as the Nazi party in Germany is establishing its position and there are mixed feelings as to whether Hitler is good for Europe or bad. I also enjoyed revisiting characters from the other novels, including Kate’s mom and dad who are from another one of the novels.

A story about sacrifice, love and embracing God’s plan for us, Kate is inspiring and a wonderful reminder of how to listen to that voice inside ourselves and let that plan unfold for us. I love Gabrielle’s books because of these messages throughout her books, I always feel spiritually refreshed and content with how these books conclude.

Another amazing addition to this series and I can’t wait for the next one!
