Genre | Tropes: Regency, Romance, Historical Fiction, Enemies to Lovers
It was a bittersweet read to enjoy the final book in this series. Elodie, one of the Lockwood twins is by far my favorite. She is so funny with the humorous things that come out of her mouth. Her family loves her deeply and only hope that she will have an enjoyable season while looking for a love match. There is no pressure from her family that she has to marry right away or that they will choose her husband, she has a great degree of freedom in this realm.
But after being presented to court and the Queen selecting Elodie as the “Diamond of the Season”, every bachelor in town is vying for her attention. This was the last thing Elodie wanted on her plate. Her only goal was to try and not trip or embarrass herself. Now she’s really have to rise to the occasion.
She does so splendidly though and gets a lot of witty cracks in at suitors that go completely unnoticed. While navigating all of this fun, she is drawn more and more to her vexing neighbor Anthony whom she has known her entire life.
Things are quickly changing between them and they are spending more and more time together. Anthony was a “heart of gold” character – he is always thinking about others and how to be helpful or charming. He realizes early on his feelings for Elodie, but assumes she could never return those feelings, so he stays at an arms length and just tries to make her happy. He has his own family problems to contend with throughout this book, including his brother’s gambling problems and the danger those kind of debts bring about.
Elodie and Anthony navigate their way through this growing attraction and it’s actually Elodie who has a harder time coming to the realization that her feelings are as deep as they are. With lots of family cajoling and pushing her in the right direction, she eventually finds her own happiness.
I’ll be sad to see the Lockwood family end, but I cannot wait for the next series that Laura has coming out!
My Favorite Lines
“Perhaps it does seem impossible at times, but I do not believe that is the case. Somewhere out there, I truly believe there is one person meant for us. A person who speaks to our soul, who understands us in ways no one else can.”
“My heart has waited so long to be loved by you. I do not want to wait another day to start living with you.”

He was the last man she ever wanted to turn to. Now, he’s the only one she can’t live without.
Lady Elodie Lockwood is content with being a wallflower, but fate has other plans. Declared the diamond of the Season by the queen herself, she finds herself the unwilling focus of Society’s relentless gaze—a situation that feels more like a curse than a blessing. When a single misstep leads to scandal, Elodie is forced to seek help from an unlikely source: Lord Belview, her childhood nemesis.
Anthony Sackville, Viscount Belview, has troubles of his own. Tasked with reining in his brother’s reckless ways, he’s already juggling enough when a young child is left on his doorstep, claiming to be his niece. Determined to shield the innocent girl from the chaos surrounding her father, Anthony turns to the one person he believes has the poise and grace to manage the impossible—Lady Elodie.
Together, Elodie and Anthony form a surprising attachment that runs far deeper than friendship. But before they can explore these new feelings, they must face unexpected opposition tied to their standing in Society. With Elodie under pressure from an eager suitor and Anthony burdened by family obligations, can they defy convention and carve out a path to happiness?
As the fifth novel in the series by author Laura Beers, A Lady’s Mishap concludes The Lockwood Family series. This is a light-hearted, clean and wholesome romance set in the Regency era. All books in this series have their own Happily-Ever-After and are best enjoyed in proper order.
