My Thoughts:

Laura Beers delivers a tender, emotionally grounded romance in To Love a Baron—one that centers on two wounded souls trying to navigate a relationship neither of them expected.

Dorothea is a portrait of quiet strength. She has endured far more than most: cruelty at the hands of her brother, the horrors of witnessing war when she accompanied her father to America, and now the emotional distance of the husband she loves—but who does not remember her. There’s a remarkable steadiness about her, a soft endurance that never hardens into bitterness. She carries her pain, but she never lets it define her. That inner steel wrapped in gentleness is what makes her such a compelling heroine.

Dominic, on the other hand, is wrestling with the kind of trauma that reshapes a person. Returned from war physically and emotionally scarred, he faces the crushing realization that he cannot remember his own wife. He’s cautious, guarded, convinced he’s too broken to be the man Dorothea deserves. What I loved most is how the story allows him to be both strong and fragile—how his healing doesn’t come from sweeping declarations, but from small moments where he lets his walls lower.

Their relationship is beautifully balanced. Dorothea must learn to offer space instead of clinging too tightly, even though her love for Dominic runs deep. Dominic must learn to trust that letting someone in won’t destroy them. Watching them meet in the middle—carefully, quietly, and with enormous emotional honesty—was incredibly satisfying.

This is a story of slow, steady healing. Of second chances. Of letting love find its way through fear. And it’s exactly the kind of Regency romance I always crave: heartfelt, clean, and rooted in emotional growth.

Publisher’s Blurb:

He returned from war hailed as a hero, but a stranger to himself—and to the wife he never knew he had.

Dominic Stevens, Baron Warwicke, comes home bearing the physical and emotional scars of battle. Haunted by fragmented memories and burdened by duty, he’s stunned to learn he has a wife—a woman he does not remember marrying.

Dorothea rejoices when Dominic comes to remove her from her brother’s abusive household. But the man who stands before her now is colder, harder… a shadow of the husband she once knew. Still, she is determined to reach the heart he has forgotten, believing the man she married is still there, merely buried beneath the pain.

Intent on seeking an annulment to free them both, Dominic fights his growing feelings for the gentle, resilient woman who refuses to give up on him. But when danger threatens Dorothea’s life, Dominic must confront not only his past but also the possibility that the love he thought forever lost in his life may be the very thing that saves them both.

As the third novel in the Courting the Unconventional series by author Laura Beers, To Love a Baron continues the series. This is a light-hearted, clean and wholesome romance set in the Regency era. All books in this series have their own Happily-Ever-After and are best enjoyed in proper order.
