Book Review: Through Quick and Quinn by Erica Sherlock

Some stories don’t simply stay on the page. They linger. They follow you into quiet moments, into reflection, into the way you think about yourself and the world around you.

Through Quick and Quinn by Erica Mimran Sherlock is one of those rare books that doesn’t just tell a story, but invites you into an emotional experience. It explores grief, healing, self-discovery, and the quiet ways connection can change us, especially during the fragile years of becoming who we are meant to be.

This is a story about loss, yes, but even more than that, it’s a story about resilience, friendship, and the courage it takes to keep going when life feels unbearably heavy.

My Thoughts:

This story, and these characters, have left an impression in my mind and on my heart that is unmatched.

Quinn’s spiritual determination to find ways to address and embrace her grief is more admirable than even I can describe. She reminds me so much of the teenager I was, but a far stronger version, and reading this book has helped me to look inward again at the methods I find most comforting for self care.

It’s funny how when you connect with characters, they can influence your life. Quinn is that for me. She’s that shining light that sits in the back of my mind and reminds me that I can be all the things I want, and encourages me to look at life more optimistically than I already do.

Quick is such a beautiful soul as well. His grief nearly ruins him, but through his admiration for Quinn and their developing friendship, he finds the support to be himself that he didn’t know he needed.

Their experiences, their friendship, and their unbounded love and support for one another is the most beautiful prose I’ve ever read. I can’t convey the amount of times I cried happy and sad tears throughout this book. It’s the realest story I’ve ever read and even thinking about it now, chokes me up all over again.

Life is a journey, sometimes a terrifying experience and sometimes it’s a flight of pure joy. Quick and Quinn embody every kind of life experience in a way that anyone can read this book and find something to relate with. Conversely, anyone can read this book and learn something new about themselves as well.

It’s not an easy story to read, and there are real tragedies portrayed within these pages. But they are presented as honestly as one can. The journey of healing for both of these characters makes the tragedies an important pillar of their development and is the crucial element that bonds them.

I can’t wait to continue to revisit this story anytime I need reminders that strength is always within us. A huge thank you to Erica for bringing this story to life and making me feel the way this book did. There aren’t many books we encounter in our lives that provide this level of connectedness and revelation.

I hope more and more people will grab this book and feel a similar way.

Publisher’s Blurb:

Flashbacks. Guilt. Self-Loathing.

Quick is a teenager drowning in the aftermath of an unspeakable tragedy. Estranged from his dysfunctional parents and disconnected from his peers, he numbs his pain with endless distractions, struggling to survive each agonizing day.

Meditations. Crystals. Self-Awareness.

Quinn, a self-imposed outcast, seeks refuge in the spiritual world. After a heartbreaking loss, she immerses herself in energy healing, embracing nature’s solace and striving to move forward with positivity and gratitude.

Both uninterested in forming connections, Quick and Quinn are shocked to discover a bond that propels them on parallel journeys of self-discovery. As they grapple with the traumas that shattered their childhood innocence, they muster the courage to uncover the truths behind their circumstances. Delving into research and introspection, they unveil a cascade of questions about the world around them, navigating through a perceived web of lies. Their unexpected friendship ignites a desire for discourse, prompting them to challenge the status quo and invite others to do the same, despite the risks.

Quick and Quinn were bold enough to share their tale. Will you be brave enough to read it?

Where to Buy:

There are books we enjoy, books we admire, and then there are books that change us.

Through Quick and Quinn is firmly in that last category. It’s a story that speaks softly but powerfully, reminding us that healing doesn’t have a timeline and that connection, sometimes unexpected, can be life-altering.

If you’re looking for a young adult novel that treats grief with honesty, characters with care, and emotional growth with depth, this is a story worth opening your heart to.
