There’s something especially comforting about a story that blends familiar fairytale threads with gentle romance, emotional healing, and just a touch of magic. Her Darling Wolf by Eliza Prokopovits is exactly that kind of read: warm, whimsical, and quietly heartfelt. With a Regency-inspired setting, fae magic, and a misunderstood wolf shifter hero, this YA retelling of Little Red Riding Hood offers a story about trust, loyalty, and finding the courage to be honest with the people who matter most.

My Thoughts:
This one was really fun to read! Emma and Kane were the most adorable pairing and even more so because Emma had adored Kane until an incident before he left for University made her feel like he was making fun of her, and then she never heard from him while he was gone. She was devastated and this created the framework of her convincing herself that she must keep him out of her life for good.
Now he’s returned home to settle back into the family life, running one of their businesses, and he’s ready to court Emma. He’s missed her dearly, and can’t wait to be around her again, however she’s being much colder to him than he thought she would be. Her dismissals of him have left him so confused, he has no idea why she no longer is interested in him.
Their dynamic was irresistible because they both liked each other so much, but Emma was pushing him away at every chance and Kane was constantly trying to find a find a way to provide his affections for her. Kane is a lovesick puppy for her, desiring nothing more than to be in her presence, but she continues to dismiss him. Until she really needs his help with something. That’s when he finally gets a chance to prove his loyalty to her and help her solve the mystery of her cousin’s questionable behavior.
A very sweet story about the strongest bonds between two people where they must face their fears of rejection, because they both fear rejection in a way that kind of holds them back through most of the book. Emma’s grief over losing the men in her family (her dad and grandfather) as well as Kane’s belief that he’s not good enough because he’s a wolf shifter.
Kane’s wolf side was too cute at times, absolutely adorable in how playful he was as a wolf. Also endearing because Emma is so sweet to Kane when he’s a wolf, but cold to him when he’s in a human form.
Facing their challenges and being honest with one another about their real feelings was the biggest treat to watch unfold. They are absolutely perfect for one another and the ending (and bonus scene) was my favorite!

Publisher’s Blurb:
Miss Emma Darling is content—living with her mother and grandmother, gardening, practicing her healing and illusions, and avoiding any attempts at matchmaking. Nothing can change that, not even her best friend’s brother—her own former friend—returning to town.
Kane Peters can’t for the life of him understand why Emma loathes him so completely. They were such good friends before he left for university, and she never seemed to mind that, thanks to his family curse, he spent half his time as a wolf. He always imagined that they’d end up married, but there’s no hope of that unless he can find out what he did wrong and fix it.
Emma, barely willing to tolerate Kane for his sister’s sake, unexpectedly finds herself needing his help when her step-cousin arrives for a surprise visit. She’s the only one who finds Richard’s behavior suspicious, but she’s convinced he’s up to something and determined to find proof.
Can Emma and Kane sort out their differences before Richard enacts his diabolical—or perhaps perfectly innocent—plan?
Enjoy this YA retelling of “Little Red Riding Hood,” set in a Regency England where Faeries are real and magic is an acceptable accomplishment for young ladies. Each book in the Regency Magic Faerie Tales series is a standalone that can be read in any order.
Where to Buy:
Her Darling Wolf is a soft, satisfying read that balances romance, magic, and emotional growth with ease. Watching Emma and Kane slowly lower their defenses, confront their fears, and finally choose honesty makes the payoff especially rewarding. If you enjoy fairytale retellings with heart, gentle tension, and a hero who is unapologetically devoted, this one is absolutely worth picking up.
