Some love stories don’t arrive with fireworks or grand declarations – they unfold quietly, petal by petal, until you suddenly realize how deeply they’ve rooted themselves in your heart. Miss Rachel’s Roses by Sienna Peake is exactly that kind of romance. Set against the gentle anticipation of Valentine’s Day, this Victorian-era love story leans into tenderness, friendship, and the kind of affection that grows slowly and sincerely. If you’re in the mood for something sweet, thoughtful, and quietly romantic, this story might be just the bloom you need.

My Thoughts:
Rachel and Charlie are childhood friends now all grown up and realizing how much they care for each other. But it’s a gentle realization. It all starts out when Rachel is actually being courted by another man who she thinks is about to propose, but then proposes to another. She’s devastated, until she starts receiving anonymous bouquets of roses from an admirer.
Charlie is quietly trying to restore Rachel’s confidence in herself by sending her these roses, but his intentions continue to grow the more they spend time with one another. Both of them start to realize how enjoyable their time together is and affections are fostering.
As Valentine’s Day is quickly approaching, Rachel is making Valentine’s for everyone she cares about, as well as a few gentleman she believes are her secret admirer. But she quickly starts to realize that it truly might be Charlie who is the one after all.
I enjoyed the relaxed and casual nature of this romance where everything has the time to bloom on it’s own. Nothing felt rushed or dramatic. Sweet romance at it’s finest that left me happy for both of them and comforted with the reminder that love has so many shades of sweetness.
I also really liked that the author wove in a Valentine’s tradition of helping others. For the most part, this holiday is marketed as a lover’s holiday, but Sienna Peake wove in the act of caring for those in need when she has Charlie feeling passionately about the conditions in the slums. Rachel, invigorated by Charlie’s passions, devises an idea to take care packages and pass them out to people there. It becomes a very important moment for them.
If you’re looking for a warm, sweet Valentine’s romance, this is definitely one to grab!!
