My Thoughts:
A beautiful love story in the backdrop of the rolling Scottish Highlands. Complete with plenty of kilts and bagpipes, if you love a historical romance set in a classic Scottish village, then you’ll adore this one.
Callan is one of the most handsome men in the village, he comes from a family line of the best looking men. He has a heart of gold and he’s the stable master for the village Lord. His friendship with the Lord puts him in an awkward position when the Lord’s health fails and upon his death he learns that everything is to be left to him, including the title. But he has to marry within one year.
This is where I really fell in love with Callan’s character because he’s terrified of marrying a woman that only wants the title of Duchess. For him, it’s marrying for love or not at all. But he also feels obliged to help the villagers. So he’s in quite a predicament.
Caleigh is a local villager and she’s one of the prettiest ladies around. Her and Callan have flirted and clearly have an attraction to one another. But they’re similar in their fears of ending up in a marriage without love. Therefore, most of the story revolves around both of them never being fully sure if their feelings are reciprocated.
But this also allows the reader to really get to know both of them as individuals and see all their quirks, flaws, and humbling nature’s. Caleigh is a teacher and her love for her students was heartwarming. I also adored how she was so accident prone. This made me love her even more because of how similar she is to myself. I’m always tripping over things or making a mess of something. I envied how prepared she always was for mishaps by having a spare change of clothes in her family’s carriage – such a smart woman!
Callen and Caleigh are perfect for one another but it takes time for this to develop and creates an incredibly sweet and endearing tale of them falling in love and realizing that love. Bringing a warmth at the end that was welcoming and felt so safe!

Publisher’s Blurb:
He’s secretly a duke with one year to marry. She’s wit and wreckage, stealing his heart. A rival suitor steps in to claim her first—and upheaval in the Highlands ignites! It’s about to get a wee bit clatty—hold onto your tartan! (And mind the bagpipes.)
The Secret Heir of Lachsford follows Callan McClellan, the respected stable master to the Duke of Lachsford—who’s stunned to learn he’s the unexpected heir to the dukedom. But there’s a catch, of course: he must marry within a year, or the title, estate, and all its responsibilities will slip right into the hands of the Duke’s smug English nephew, Lord Crandall. Uncomfortable with aristocracy, Callan must navigate high society without losing himself.
Caileigh O’Connell is a spirited, principled literature teacher with a charming knack for tripping over her own feet—someone who manages to both exasperate and captivate Callan in equal measure. When sparks fly between them, pride, duty, and an unexpected connection threaten to upend them both.
Brimming with wit, warmth, and Highland charm, this Regency romance is perfect for fans of Sarah M. Eden, Julianne Donaldson, and clean, playful love stories.
