My Thoughts:

What a heartwarming story, the first to make me cry tears of joy in a few months! I’m all about letting the tears flow when it comes to a great love story and this one hits all the beats! Ben and Allegra are the Cinderella and Prince Charming of the year.

Allegra is a prima ballerina trying to find a way to escape the life of performance and save the future of her very young daughter who is reaching the age of starting her own career in the stage. At about 7 years old, her daughter is already in their sights and Allegra will do anything to keep her from that experience. So she devises a masterful plan to woo a Colonel that frequents her shows and secure a marriage of convenience to save her and her daughter’s future. But this course comes with lots of complications.

Baron Ben Burnham has his own sights on getting his younger sister set up with the Colonel, but she’s still a little too young and not quite ready for marriage. Ben and Allegra end up at odds of the future of the Colonel and this turns into a train wreck for the both of them.

But through this process the two of them realize their growing attractions for one another. For Ben, it’s a question of whether he can marry below his station and sacrifice the future of his sisters prospects at the risk of losing his own heart.

Allegra is a powerful character. She has endured so much and does it all with grace and confidence. The way she carries herself and will sacrifice for those she loves, is equally matched to the heart of gold inside Ben. The two of them really are perfectly paired, but there are plenty of trials they must both overcome in their own developments before they can reach their happily ever after.

I adored this story from the first page through to the author’s notes. This is a world and a set of characters I would love to revisit often and I can’t wait to see what happens with Ben’s sister, Sylvie, in the next one!!

Publisher’s Blurb:

Allegra Lovage will do anything to secure her daughter’s future—even marry a man she doesn’t love.

At twenty-three, the ambitious ballerina has set her sights on the perfect husband: wealthy, respectable Colonel John Cooper. If she can capture his attention during the London season, she can give her daughter the life she deserves.

But Baron Benjamin Burnham has plans for the colonel as well.

Before his father died, Ben promised to see his younger sister safely married to his childhood friend. Inviting Colonel Cooper to stay at his London townhouse seems the perfect way to encourage the match—until Ben discovers a determined ballerina pursuing him too.

Stopping Allegra should be simple.

Yet the more Ben crosses paths with the spirited dancer, the harder it becomes to see her as the villain of his plans. Because the woman he is determined to defeat may be the very woman he cannot forget.
