Emma Jane (EJ) has a lot to learn in this one. She’s becoming so focused on wealth and success and putting everything else in her life by wayside. Her relationship with her family and her best friend Jordon is suffering as she chases the dream of getting her matchmaker app “Dream Match” to be successful. It’s a long journey of self discovery, but as always, the journey is worth the reward.

My Thoughts:
Emma Jane (EJ) has a lot to learn in this one. She’s becoming so focused on wealth and success and putting everything else in her life by wayside. Her relationship with her family and her best friend Jordon is suffering as she chases the dream of getting her matchmaker app “Dream Match” to be successful. It’s a long journey of self discovery, but as always, the journey is worth the reward.
EJ and her friend Jordan jointly created this match making app to help Christians find others with similar values and interests. But as the app starts to get more investment and fame, EJ quits her job (which really was a good decision) and starts to set her sights fully on getting as much investment into her project as possible. This puts her on a dangerous course of being submerged into the shark tank of the elite and wealthy. As she catches the eye of one very wealthy man, Eric, he uses her emotions as a way to capture her in his tentacles. EJ has some hard choices to make about all this and that’s the journey she’s on.
The thing I enjoyed about EJ’s character is that she really struggled with her own self-image, but didn’t quite realize that her struggles were sending her down a dangerous path. She was capitulating at times to others wants and needs and putting herself at risk. Her inability to see her own worth had her blinded to the fact that she didn’t need to give into certain situations and allow herself to be used. Her best friend Jordan, was always by her side trying to remind her that she was worthy and to be successful didn’t mean she had to give in.
But her blindness to all of this also starts to drive her away from her best friend. Thankfully, he never gives up on her. His emotions are all over the place too, though, because he’s already realized a while back how much he loves her and wants to be with her. He’s struggling in different ways due to this and has a hard time continuing to try and help EJ see what’s happening. The many times they argue throughout this one over what she’s becoming really drive that message home. When your friends and family start being worried about you and asking what’s going on, that’s when it’s time to stop and take stock of your life and decisions.
When everything comes to a head though, Emma Jane and Jordan’s friendship is in danger and both of their hearts are raw from all that’s transpired. Jordan is trying to accept that his friend has become more focused on wealth and success and doesn’t seem even a little bit interested in him or even his help, while EJ is realizing all the things she never saw that’s right in front of her.
This story has plenty of cute and adorable moments between friends and family, but is also a fantastic reminder to stay true to ourselves. Always evaluate what your goals are in life and if they really align with the kind of person you want yourself to be. We all lose our way at times, and I was oh so joyful when Emma Jane found her way back onto her God given path.
Note: This is a Jane Austen retelling and is based on Emma and Mr. Knightley.
