Past and Present LDS Romance: Echoes of the Heart by K. M. Stockton and A. R. Walker

This book was filled with so much warmth and grace, that I had a hard time putting it down. Dual timeline stories weave together a picture of perseverance and passion for following the word of God and these characters really brought that journey to life. I not only felt like I read a really good romance story, but also supplemented some of my own faith journey in the process.

My Thoughts:

In the current timeline we have Colton and Jessie: two very busy college kids who don’t make any time for dating until important people in both their lives make them each a dating app to connect with like people from their school campus.

This brings them together and they quickly realize how much they enjoy being around one another. Jessie is Colton’s opposite in so many ways, challenging his organized schedule and way of doing things. While Colton is the warm balm to Jessie’s life where she’s had some challenges and struggled to felt welcomed by others. They’ll have one major hurdle to overcome as Jessie lets out a secret from her past.

Conversely, we have an 1841 timeline that corresponds with the family history that Colton’s grandmother is writing about. Their family came from Pendock, England where the American missionaries for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints has arrived to share their message with the village. Colton’s ancestors Sarah and William are featured in this timeline. It’s an ominous setting where the village is being separated by mobs who believe the LDS members are Heathens and many attacks start to happen on those who are joining the church.

The journey for Sarah and William is wrought with lots of dangerous moments, but also filled with prayer and reminders that not all trials are easy and there are times when we have to be strong in faith in the face of persecution.

Not only was this book beautifully told from a romantic perspective with healthy relationships being the focus; not without their challenges, because both timelines incorporated very realistic situations where we are reminded to share our concerns with God and seek guidance in making those challenging decisions. But these are model reminders for how relationships should be approached and the importance of being open and calm when faced with adversity.

I really enjoyed this one and am looking forward to reading more LDS romance in the future!
