My Review
The 1932 Olympics, a woman sports reporter determined to be taken seriously, and a mystery unfolding behind the scenes? I was immediately interested in this one!
Emma Hancock travels to cover the Winter Games at Lake Placid, where she meets Ryan Callahan, an athlete competing in both the winter and summer Olympics. I especially enjoyed the historical details woven through their story. Seeing the Games through Emma’s eyes made me curious about what the Olympics were like in 1932, particularly for the women competing and the women trying to report on them.
Emma has to work harder than the men around her to prove she belongs in the press box. That made Ryan’s respect for her all the sweeter. He appreciates her intelligence and determination, and she sees the kindness beneath his athletic confidence. Their romance develops alongside Emma’s work, with letters between the two Olympic Games adding a lovely personal touch.
There’s plenty more going on than competition and romance. Emma’s reporting draws her into a troubling mystery, while the growing influence of Nazi beliefs adds tension to the story’s historical setting. I liked how those threads gave me something to think about beyond who would win a medal.
With its mix of sports history, faith, romance, and suspense, Sabotage Games has a lot for historical fiction readers to enjoy. I’m also curious to see where the Di Stasio Giornaliste Agency stories go next, especially Lena and Hartley’s!

Who will pay the ultimate price for Olympic Gold? LAKE PLACID, N.Y., 1932—Sports journalist Emma Hancock is determined to claim her place in the press box, despite the male colleagues who slam the door in her face. But when a mysterious illness begins systematically sidelining athletes, Emma’s gift for spotting patterns reveals a plot far more sinister than mere competition.
With the Games in his own backyard, Olympic sprinter Ryan Callahan laces up his speed skates to compete in his first winter games. He has no time for distractions—especially not the inconvenience of the beautiful female journalist staying as a guest in his family’s crowded home.
But when the pattern of sabotage deepens, Emma and Ryan must work together to follow the threads before they become the next targets to fall.
