First off, what a fun and adorable holiday read this was!
The story was well thought-out, details covered and story progressed nicely.
This is the story of two adult sisters who lost their mother and father 4 years ago to a tragic car accident on Christmas Eve. After that accident, their lives were never the same again. They drifted apart and let themselves get lost in the hum drum of every day life.
Until one fateful day they both receive a red envelope under their doors that notifies them that their childhood home, the home where they grew up, is about to go up for auction because they have not been paying the taxes. Both sisters try and put their grief behind them to work together and return to their childhood home in hopes of finding a solution. It just so happens that the money they need to come up with to remove the lien on their house could be won through the town Christmas Decorating contest.
Only one problem. No one has been caring for the house in years and it needs a lot of work. Through their continued positive outlook, working together as a family and a community they might just be able to pull this off in 5 days.
The story moves quickly along keeping you heavily engaged, but also stringing you along just enough that when each chapter ends you want to start the next one to see what happens. Sisters, Adrienne and Gretchen, have that familial similarity but are also very unique characters. Gretchen is much more carefree and takes life as it comes, where Adrienne is always worrying and trying to be the responsible one.
Both of them are faced with big life questions and decisions. Eventually they will have to decide, whether or not they get to keep their family home, will they put the city life behind them and return to the close-knit neighborhood they ran away from when their parents died, or do they give up and return to the unhappiness they’ve been drowning in for years now?
The perfect holiday pick-me-up that reads quickly and has plenty of clean, fun romance to keep you feeling good and not wanting to put it down until you’re done.
