An ARC copy of this book was provided to me in exchange for my honest review. All thoughts are my own.

This book has that classic thriller / murder mystery vibe and what a creepy, fun adventure this serial killer thriller was. I had no idea what to expect diving into this one other than it was about a serial killer. But Jones does a killer job (pun intended) of making this so much more than a murder mystery.

The personal connections between between the Detective Jazz and the serial killer delve deep into traumatic issues that were well handled. She has some all too familiar commonalities with the killer and he’s killing for her, as we learn throughout this quick-[aced story. It sends all kinds of chills down your spine! A great read and it’s available everywhere tomorrow! If it’s your cup of tea, check it out for sure! I loved this one!

“The poet is a liar who always speaks the truth.”

-Jean Cocteau

Now to delve just a little but deeper. One of the best parts of this entire book is that the reader and the main character continue to question what the killers purpose is and whether or not, or more accurately HOW these events are shaping the main character. Detective Jazz. It’s no secret that any law enforcement official is heavily impacted by the investigations they’re involved in. But for our character, she has to think like a serial killer and with one that’s so informed on her own family, it starts to make her question her own ability to kill.

Sometimes it can be difficult to determine what side of the fight you’re on. Or if maybe you’re becoming what you’ve always been meant to be. You just needed someone to show you the door to it.

Just try and solve this mystery without succumbing to the same ideals that Detective Jazz and The Poet have in common…

Plenty of action and suspense to keep you engaged throughout the entire story and never enough clues to make you think you know what’s going to happen. At least that’s how I felt! Great supporting characters that actually help to define the loneliness of Detective Jazz and why she is the way she is in this story. You’ll understand a lot more once you check it out. But it was wonderful to read a story like this again that really gets my blood pumping, excitement coursing through me as I try to unravel the mystery!
