Rating: 5 out of 5.

This book was amazing and read really quickly. While this is a story that includes characters from an earlier book, it can be read as a stand alone due to it including the most relevant information from the other book.

Revisiting these characters and seeing how they’ve grown and been influenced by the tragedy they suffered nearly a decade earlier, made for a really fun read. Not to mention that this one almost read like a traditional murder mystery (without a main murder). Without giving too much away, three young women are best friends and living together. One of the three friends has been traumatized by an experience with a shared acquaintance – drugged, assaulted and raped. She has very little memory of it, but when the man is found beaten in the same place where the friend was found, he claims one of the others did it.

After that, the story unfolds in such an astonishing way that no one is who you think they are and the things you think happened, well they may not be what they seem either.

What I love most about Redfearn’s books is her heavy emphasis on choices and consequences. Both of her books I’ve read included an ultimate focus on choices we make under difficult circumstances and how the consequences of those decisions lead the way for how things shape not only us as people, but also what others think about us. These are not easy lessons to write about; it changes your perspective on how you look at people and judge their lives. But these are important lessons and I love the way she writes about them.

Along with their roommate, Hazel, they are making their marks on the world—Mo revolutionizing the news with her media start-up, Hazel using her big brain to anticipate the future, and Chloe rescuing abandoned strays in the city.

But when Hazel disappears after being sexually assaulted, Mo’s and Chloe’s lives are again suddenly ripped apart. And when the perpetrator turns up drugged and beaten, the mystery of where Hazel is deepens. Intensely worried and desperate to discover the truth, they set out to find Hazel and bring her home.

A deeply moving story of carrying on even when it seems impossible.

Life is over in an instant for sixteen-year-old Finn Miller when a devastating car accident tumbles her and ten others over the side of a mountain. Suspended between worlds, she watches helplessly as those she loves struggle to survive.

Impossible choices are made, decisions that leave the survivors tormented with grief and regret. Unable to let go, Finn keeps vigil as they struggle to reclaim their shattered lives. Jack, her father, who seeks vengeance against the one person he can blame other than himself; her best friend, Mo, who bravely searches for the truth as the story of their survival is rewritten; her sister Chloe, who knows Finn lingers and yearns to join her; and her mother, Ann, who saved them all but is haunted by her decisions.
