My Thoughts:
This book was deeply emotional, and I often found myself unwilling to put it down. Kimberley Woodhouse weaves a story that is both heart-wrenching and inspiring, shining a light on courage in the face of overwhelming darkness.
Chaisley Frappier is a child prodigy at the piano, capable of playing complex pieces far beyond her years. But tragedy strikes, and she loses her sight. In an era when blindness was seen as an insurmountable limitation, few believed she would accomplish much—let alone continue her music. Yet Chaisley’s gift proves extraordinary, transcending what anyone could have imagined.
As an adult, she embarks on a concert tour across Europe just as the shadow of World War II deepens. While the music is her public purpose, her heart is stirred by the growing injustices around her—particularly the targeting and disappearance of those with disabilities. Her unshakable determination to help others, despite the danger, became one of the most powerful aspects of this story for me.
When Rick Zimmerman, a British spy working undercover, is assigned as her driver, Chaisley senses immediately that he is hiding something. Their lives soon intertwine in perilous ways, as together they embark on a mission to rescue those in danger. Their journey is marked by constant risk, secrecy, and moments of devastating fear—yet also by resilience and hope.
Chaisley is an unforgettable heroine. Her faith, her devotion to people, and her refusal to let blindness define her were nothing short of inspiring. She embodies courage not just in her music, but in the way she chooses to love and protect others even when her own safety is at stake.
I also adored Melanie, Chaisley’s best friend and assistant. Though younger and sometimes hesitant, her quiet strength and perseverance left a deep impression on me. Watching her growth throughout the novel was almost as moving as following Chaisley’s journey.
A Song in the Dark is a beautifully written tale of bravery, sacrifice, and the transformative power of both faith and friendship. It captures the tension of wartime Europe while reminding readers of the light one life can bring into the darkest of places.

Publisher’s Blurb:
Her music captivates crowds. His mission exposes secrets. Their courage defies a dictator.
Against the simmering backdrop of impending war, blind virtuoso pianist Chaisley Frappier embarks on a concert tour through a rapidly changing Europe. When she learns that Hitler’s regime of injustice is targeting other disabled people, Chaisley realizes she is in a prime position to help those who are threatened reach safety. But the Führer’s growing fascination with the celebrated musician endangers her undercover mission and forces her to walk a tightrope between her fame and her calling.
When Rick Zimmerman receives his next assignment from the British Secret Intelligence Service, he is surprised to learn he’ll be acting as the personal driver of a world-renowned pianist as she tours Europe. The role gives him the perfect cover to complete missions of sabotage and intelligence-gathering, but he soon suspects the brilliant, alluring pianist has secrets of her own. As Chaisley and Rick confront evil at every turn, it will take every bit of faith and courage they possess to triumph over hate–and survive.

This novel is a stirring reminder that even in the darkest of times, light, love, and bravery can make all the difference.
